Webinar Recap: Adaptiverse Live Walkthrough
Thanks to everyone who joined our live session with Jefferson Stovall (Captain Tomorrow, co-founder of Adaptiverse) and Lisa Mihalich Quinn (Founder & Executive Director, Reach Every Voice; co-founder, Communication for Education). We brought together parents, educators, and practitioners—many from the Reach Every Voice community—to explore how Adaptiverse helps create accessible, rigorous lessons for non-speaking learners without sacrificing what makes each student unique.
Why Adaptiverse exists
Lisa described the long-standing challenge: adapting grade-level curriculum for non-speaking learners is vital but time-intensive. Her team has created 300+ adapted lessons over the years, and demand keeps growing. Partnering with Jefferson, we turned this workflow into an AI-powered tool that encodes REV’s Language Ladder and prioritizes reasoning over recall, producing consistent, scaffolded lessons in minutes—not hours.
What we showed (live demo)
- Generate by topic: We created lessons on Goods & Services (grade 1), What Plants Need to Survive (age 10), and Exothermic vs. Endothermic Reactions (high school). In each case, Adaptiverse produced:
- A clear explanatory paragraph
- A predictable sequence of scaffolded questions: two-choice reasoning, “expected completion” (fill-in guided by likely completions), reasoning with a range of answers, and an open-ended prompt
- Bolded keywords (optional) and credible sources at the end
- Generate by image: We uploaded a textbook page (Japanese history) and a photo (elephant rides in India) to show how Adaptiverse extracts concepts from visuals and builds structured lessons around them.
- Age & complexity controls: An age slider (6–21) tunes text and question complexity. Educator-grade controls (e.g., Lexile) will surface in future releases.
- Dashboard & notes: All generated lessons save to your dashboard, where you can copy, print (or save to PDF), and add notes. A new edit-in-place experience is rolling out, making it easy to tweak wording for a specific learner.
What makes it different
- Consistency by design: General chat tools can feel hit-or-miss. Adaptiverse pairs deep prompt engineering with product guardrails to reliably produce research-aligned, scaffolded lessons that match REV’s methodology.
- Reasoning-forward: Prompts and question types are tuned to build thinking—not just recall—matching how non-speaking learners are taught to express ideas.
- Transparency: Each lesson cites sources so you can check facts, extend learning, and build confidence in what you’re presenting.
Real-world impact
Early users report faster preparation, better alignment to student communication methods, and immediate re-engagement when a planned activity isn’t landing. As Becky Griffin (Advancing Life Learners) shared, staff can “immediately use these lessons” without being a content expert; questions come pre-structured to support students at every communication level. Practitioner Pearl Castro highlighted how quick on-the-fly lesson generation deepens connection and keeps sessions moving.
What’s available today
- Web app (desktop & mobile) accessible worldwide
- Topic- and image-based lesson generation
- Age-based complexity control
- Optional keyword highlighting
- Sources for every lesson
- Dashboard with notes, copy, and print to PDF
What’s coming next
- Edit in place in a full-page view (richer formatting & quick tweaks)
- Customization controls (e.g., choose which question types and how many per paragraph)
- Image & multimedia integrations from trusted providers to pair lessons with visuals and short clips
- Team seats for educators (teacher/staff accounts first; student data features will follow once the required compliance and security layers are in place)
Quality, safety, and sustainability
- We emphasize accuracy and safety: the system is engineered not to speculate and to rely on provided or sourced content.
- We’re mindful of the environmental footprint of AI; using the tool for high-value curriculum adaptation aims to replace hours of manual work with a lighter-impact, targeted workflow.
